Graphic/Web Designer Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Graphic/Web Designer is responsible for the design and production of ATC marketing and collateral materials, such as sale sheets, brochures, flyers, event graphics, etc.  Print and media buying tasks associated with the production and cost control of ATC’s printed materials will be required. The incumbent will also be responsible for designing, programming and maintaining ATC websites through ATC’s content management system. This person will also be responsible for developing web-based tools, analyzing site analytics, SEO, and ensuring that all content information is up to date.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Designs, programs and maintains all of ATC’s websites through content management system (Appalachiantrail.org, ATC Online Store, Intranet, ATC photo database etc). This includes developing pages, updating content, SEO, monitoring site performance, and researching latest trends. 
    • Monitors overall site performance, e-commerce transactions, and browser compatibility.
    • Designs and produces items for office or program use, such as stationary, annual report, information sheets, templates, brochures, booklets, and event materials. Works with supervisor and other editors to implement text corrections and layout revisions.
    • Conducts photo research, illustration, implementing text corrections, advertisement design, and print coordination.
    • Maintains ATC's photographic database and responses to individuals and publishers requests.
    • Assists other staff members and ATC partners in the development and production of publication for programs in other functional areas. Also is responsible for preparing files for print production.
    • Manages business contracts and arrangements with related vendors.
    • Performs other duties as assigned to help meet the goals and objectives of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, fine arts, or equivalent experience or education combined with college courses in computer science and hands-on computer experience is required.
  • At least 2 years experience in related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Products: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Knowledge programming e-commerce and mobile websites.
  • Excellent creative, design and proofreading skills.
  • Strong mathematical and organizational skills. 
  • Knowledge of professional printing practices and standards.
  • Knowledge in XML-based web applications and programming, XHTML programming, JavaScript, Sitefinity CMS system, and other web development languages & technologies preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working on the computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals by phone, e-mail and in person.
  • Sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Extensive proofreading requires adequate vision and focus.
  • Shared office environment with modest noise level.
