    Biennial Campers Take Note:

You will be able to have a shower after your hike! The normal hours for the shower facilities at the Reid Gym  are 8:30-5:00 p.m. We're working with Western Carolina University to extend those hours or to make other arrangements for shower facilities.

Dr. Powers: kids are allowed to stay in dorms on campus. No payment is required for children under 12 to stay in the dorms or to camp in a tent. If they aren't registered for a bed/dorm be sure to bring something that will make them comfortable for the night.

R Timmons: Registration is $70 for the whole conference if you register online and before May 31. Daily registration is $35. Meals costs depend on the meal (breakfast, lunch, trail lunch, or dinner).

  3. 3 Dr. David Powers 09 May
Are kids allowed to also stay in the campus housing?

Your registration process stinks, especially if you are trying to register more than one person, my wife and myself for example.  I had to go through the whole tedious process twice, and then had to go back to modify the first registration because one of the hikes was not available to the second person.  Also, some hikes listed on the ATC website were not offered on the registration, e.g. Wayay Gap to Wayah Bald (H2209).  Is that because they are filled or dropped?

    Sorry I can't attend.

Sorry,  can't make it to the conference this year.

I've read about the conference and received mail from ATC inviting my participation in a dinner and or the conference.  Nowhere in any of this have I seen information about the cost of the conference or the cost of the meal if not attending the conference.  I admit to not reading every piece of mail that comes my way but this is critical information that should be mentioned in every communication about the conference.

The registration packet arrived in members' March-April issue of A.T. Journeys. Registration opens online in a mere 14 days. Registering on-line also saves you $10. If you haven't received your A.T. Journeys, the details on hikes, excursions, and workshops are found in those respective areas of this section of the website. You can download the information that was printed in ATJ.

I am looking forward to registration, which opens April 15th. I have already submitted a leave request with my employer for the week of July 19-26. Is there any estimate on the cost of accomodations? A rough estimate would help me budget for 2013.  A range would really help me with my budget. I understand the hesitancy in providing an exact amount.  Thanks

When will the details be available?  I know we can't register until April but usually we get a schedule of what's going on and when so we can start planning what we want to do in January and February.  Is there an update on this?  (We have attended conferences since the mid-80's and are looking forward to this year as well).   Thank you.

The photo which appears on the housing menu is misleading. That is the skyline of the City of Asheville, not WCU in Cullowhee. You have plenty of time to change it.

Nanette: We're not sure of the final costs for the conference yet. There is a Steering Committee meeting set for early January when some of the final decisions on costs will be set. We'll let you know just as soon as possible so you can start planning.

Barbara: As a former Girl Scout and Girl Scout leader, I'm delighted we'll have some Girl Scouts represented at this year's conference!

Zee: We can't wait to see you at your Alma Mater in July!

Diane, Peter, & Redblaze: We have 66 different hikes offered. They include 85 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Deep Gap/Standing Indian Mountain to Shuckstack Mountain in North Carolina, another 29 miles of the A.T. on hikes in the Clingmans Dome, Newfound Gap, Mt. Cammerer, and Max Patch areas. Hiking options don't go as far north as Hot Springs (the closest is Max Patch).

Celso: Contact ATC's information desk at 304-535-6331 for information on hiking the A.T.

Lori: Regarding call for presentations/posters, etc...There may still be room for exhibitors, etc. Email ATCBiennial at gmail.com with what you're hoping to present, and I'll see if I can connect you with the right person.

Ann: I love the idea of a gear exchange/flea market, but we haven't been planning to include that as part of our planning. Perhaps we will see this as part of a future ATC Biennial conference?

Andre: I think there may be an A.T. Biennial hosted in New England in 2017. The Mid-Atlantic clubs are hosting it in 2015 (somewhat closer to Quebec). Hope you'll make it to that conference, if not this one upcoming in 2013. We'd love to show off the scenery of the Southern Appalachians to you.

Tim: I've looked for that same list. I'll continue to keep an eye out and post it here if I can find it.

    John: I can't wait either!

Tim:  I've been reading past conferences as PATC is sponsoring the 2015 conference.  These are the reports I have.  You may want to call the AT Conservancy for others.

The best promo for an AT Conference EVER!!  It  would inspire the most hardcore controlled environmental non-hiker to just HAVE to sign up to find out what fun we environmentally conscious tree lovers know that they don't.  Great Job!  Looking forward to attending.
  16. 16 Nanette 07 Nov
    Do you know the cost?
  17. 17 Barbara Norris Duerk 29 Oct
Girl Scouts do more than sell cookies!  Girl Scouts hiked the entire Appalachian Trail - in bits and pieces in 2012 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts.  Girl Scouts from 28 states, the District of Colombia, Canada, England and France got hiked.  Girl Scouts bold the out in ScOUTs.  See ya Girl Scouts in Cullowhee!  B

Which miles of the trail will be available for hiking?  My friend has hiked Fontana DAm south and wonders how much north will be available. Will hikes be available through all of the AT in the Smokies or further north of it into Hot Springs?  Thanks

Will you have a call for presentations/posters or exibits?

    Thanks,

    Lori

so many of us attending have been hiking, & packing for a number of years and have updated our equipment from time to time. It would be great to have a flea market where people can buy, sell, & trade their gear.  One person's cast off is another's treasure.

  24. 24 RedBlaze 01 Aug
Which of  AT sections will the conference cover? Thanks

I am trying to find a list (locations and dates) of past Appalachian Trail Conservancy Bi-Annual Conferences.  Can any one supply me with such a list?  I have searched your Web-Site, but have not been able to find this information.  Thanks,  Tim Cronley
