ATC Joins in the A.T. Celebration at Trail Days

(May 14, 2008) - Damascus, Virginia is gearing up for Trail Days, the world’s most famous trail festival. From May 16 to May 18 Trail neighbors, A.T. enthusiasts, and thru-hikers current, past, and future will gather to celebrate and learn about the Appalachian Trail, and meet friends old and new. There will be music, children's games, a parade, a hikers' talent show, contra dancing, hikes, workshops, lots of food, and other activities for the whole family.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy will have a booth in the town park (near the gazebo) with lots of fun activities. A.T. temporary tattoos will be given away, and there will be prizes for taking the A.T. quiz. Those who get all the questions right will be eligible for a drawing held during the talent show Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the gazebo in the town park. Hikers photos from 2007 (both the Harpers Ferry Polaroids and Katahdin photos sent into ATC) will be on display. A special Trail Days ATC membership rate will be offered.

A.T. enthusiasts are invited to participate in or attend ATC’s A.T. Jeopardy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the Rock School. (Contestants should arrive at 3:30 p.m.). This event is part of The Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association’s (ALDHA) “Hiker Hangout,” which runs from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and includes food and entertainment.

Prizes and giveaways for the ATC activities have been donated by Jet Boil, Leki, REI, Etowah Outfitters, Hennessy Hammock, Granite Gear, Higher Ground Roasters, Big Agnes, and Eastern Outdoor Sales.
