Georgia A.T. License Plate
Appalachian Trail Conservancy and its team of volunteers in Georgia has received approval of its application for the creation of an Appalachian Trail license plate.
Now, ATC is seeking 1,000 people to apply for their specialty plate in Georgia. Each applicant for the Georgia Appalachian Trail license plate must submit a Special Interest/Commemorative License Plate application (Form MV-9Q) and a $25 manufacturing fee to Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Get the Application (PDF) As of October 1, 2009, ATC has recieved 436 applications. Once ATC has received 1,000 paid license plate applications, ATC will submit one check in the amount of $25,000.00 to cover all manufacturing fees and all applications for the proposed license plate to the state. This will initiate production. Our way of saying "thanks"As a thank you to our first 1,000 license plate applicants, ATC is offering a free one-year ATC membership. If you are not currently a member of ATC, we'll set you up as a new member. If you are a current member of the ATC when we receive your application, you can take your free membership in the form of a gift membership for friend/family member. You should receive notice from us once we get your application to go ahead and send in the gift recipient information for us to process that request. We are not able to process renewals with this one-time annual membership offer.
If ATC does not reach 1,000 paid applications before April 14, 2011, the special interest plate will not be manufactured, and all applications fees collected by ATC will be returned to applicants. ATC intends to seek revenue sharing from the sale of these license plates. Revenue sharing requires legislation to be enacted by the state of Georgia. All revenues received by ATC will be used for A.T. projects in Georgia. These projects will include: trail and facilities maintenance, scenic easements and view preservation, environmental monitoring, increased public information, and education and outreach to Georgia residents. Please note: The state is not set up to allow personalization of specialty plates at this time.
For your information, here is a general break down of the taxes and fees normally associated with a special interest license plate. At the time of initial application during sponsor application period: At the time of issuance (paid directly to State of Georgia):
