Tennessee Plate Celebrates Reaching 1000 Goal!

The challenge to reach Tennessee’s requirement of 1000 license plates sold has been met!!  Thanks to the many supporters of the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee who made this possible.  Subject to approval by the state Department of Revenue, the plates should be available by early November.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy will receive $15.56 annually for each A.T. plate purchased or renewed. As a thank you for your support, you will receive a free, one-time annual membership to the ATC*, a $35 value.

Now that the 1000 applications are in transition from ATC to the state of TN, those interested in purchasing a TN specialty A.T. Plate will need to wait until the state tag offices are ready to accept applications. 
Your patience is appreciated while this process takes place! We hope the offices will be set up to accept interested parties by early fall.

How will it help the A.T.?

These funds will help the ATC by supporting:

  • Trail and facilities maintenance, 
  • land conservation, 
  • public information efforts, 
  • citizen scientist-based environmental monitoring program known as the A.T. MEGA-Transect, and 
  • the introduction of teachers and kids to the A.T. through ATC’s A Trail to Every Classroom program.

If you are not currently a member of ATC, we'll set you up as a new member to our organization.

If you are a current member of the ATC, you can take your free membership in the form of a gift membership for friend/family member. You should receive notice from us to go ahead and send in the gift recipient information for us to process that request.

We aren’t set up to do renewals for the one-year membership deal for specialty tags.  

How much is it?

A standard, numerical A.T. license plate costs $35.  A personalized one will cost $70—in addition to the regular vehicle registration fee. ATC will receive $15.56 of the fees for each plate produced or renewed.
