Potomac Appalachian Trail Club and ATC Lead Hike to Threatened Vista

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia (May 22, 2008) - The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club and ATC will lead a hike to Weaverton Cliffs on Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m. starting from the Weaverton Road parking area, off MD 67.  The organizers will present information on the proposed communications tower at the intersection of Keep Tryst and Sandy Hooks Road, which, if erected, would blemish the spectacular views now enjoyed from Weaverton Cliffs.

The proposed tower would stick up 190 feet, as modeled in this picture by a tall crane in the distance, and would be in direct view of three National Parks - the C&O Canal National Historical Park, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Participants on the hike will learn more about alternatives to the proposed communications tower and what action can be taken to get involved.

Contact Rick Canter at southmountaineers@yahoo.com or Caroline Petti at (202) 529-0953 for more information on this hike or the proposed tower.
