A.T. Plates are Coming to Virginia 

Thanks to the hard work and cooperation of Trail lovers across the Commonwealth, Virginia drivers will soon be sporting the beautiful plate that you see pictured here.

To make this happen, we needed to receive 350 pre-paid applications to Virginia DMV by July 30.  Due to the amazing support of the Virginia A.T. community, we were able to gather nearly 450!

The period for gathering pre-paid applications is officially over.  Any applications received after July 25th will be returned to the applicant. You will have to wait until the plates are issued to purchase yours through your local DMV or Virginia’s DMV website.

Pre-paid Applicants:

All pre-paid applicants will receive a free one-year membership to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.  Those who are already members can give a gift membership to a non-member.  The membership department will be following up with you over the next few months.

Virginia DMV estimate that the plates will be issued around March of 2009.  At that time, pre-paid applicants will receive their new plates along with stickers that expire in the same month/year as their current plates that are being replaced.  If you are within 1-2 months of expiration, the DMV will automatically renew your plates and will bill you for the renewal.  This saves you the hassle of immediately renewing your tags after receiving them.
