Summer Event Series Brings Music and Art to Pennsylvania Trail Communities

Date Published: Aug 18, 2014

Boiling Springs, PA (August 11, 2014) – The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) continues its “Third Thursdays” event series with an evening of free live music and art-focused guided hikes beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) at Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. Guests are invited to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and to relax, picnic and enjoy the sights and sounds alongside the A.T.

During the event, titled “Music & Art in the Park,” guitarist, singer and ATC staff member Todd Coyle, along with other special guests, will provide music for the evening. Local artist Jessica Miller will also lead two short Artful Hiking walks featuring brief lessons on nature journaling with the goal of teaching participants the “art of seeing” while learning basic techniques of perspective, light, movement and more. Supplies will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring along their own journal to reuse on later hikes. In addition to art and music, local trail clubs will be on hand to answer questions, offer volunteer opportunities and share hiking information.

“The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s “Third Thursdays” events are a terrific way to get to know the Appalachian Trail,” said Kelly McGinley, coordinator of the event series. “With a focus on art, music, community and volunteer stewardship, each event gives people a new way to get outdoors, learn more about the Appalachian Trail and become involved.”

Music & Art in the Park is open to the public, but registration for the Artful Hiking walks is required due to limited space. To register, call 717-258-5771 or visit www.atcthirdthursdays.eventbrite.com
