Join the Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club (BMECC) on Wednesday, May 16, from 9 a.m to 3 p.m for a work trip to the William Penn Shelter.
The day’s planned work includes repainting the symbolic white blazes that mark the Trail, branch clipping to clear the path, clearing out the shelters designated fire ring, as well as dismantling any illegal ones. The day includes hiking 4.4-miles round-trip, perfect for hikers who are new to maintenance.
Wear sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, as well as personal snacks, rain jacket, and water. Rest breaks will be taken as needed. It is also spring turkey hunting season, so wear bright blaze orange so you will be easily seen by others.
Any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Meet at the parking lot where the A.T crosses RT 645 in Bethel, PA.
