Volunteer In Memoriam

We recognize the contributions of volunteers who have recently passed away.  Their efforts protected the Appalachian Trail and kept the footpath open and in good repair. Our intent is to honor the efforts of A.T. volunteers, but we cannot guarantee that every submission we receive will be posted on our website.  If you have any questions, please contact ATC at [email protected].

Dave Blumenthal - Green Mountain Club

by Javier Folgar | Apr 17, 2011
Dave BlumenthalIn Vermont, the Green Mountain Club recently lost a dynamic 37-year-old board member and extraordinary volunteer, Dave Blumenthal.  The AT was one of the many long distance hiking trails that was near and dear to Dave’s heart.  He will be missed.

Dave Blumenthal died on June 24, following a bicycle accident in Colorado the previous day. He was participating in the 2010 Tour Divide, a 2,780 mile mountain bicycle race from Banff to New Mexico.

A memorial service was held at GMC on July 10, 2010 at 3:30pm with sharing and a walk on the Short Trail. Dave was 37 years old, gifted, strong, kind, and generous.  Some of you may have been following Dave’s amazing blog.
